We had the home kit a few weeks ago, now the Blades have revealed the away kit which will be worn by the team for the upcoming season. We have been blessed with quite a range of diverse kits in recent years, both home and away. This has been notched up since the Blades signed a contract with global giants Adidas in 2014, providing us with a 125 year anniversary kit which was predominantly white and gained a mixed bag of reviews from fans.
It is firstly important to point out that the kit is very… unique to say the least. A lot of people (including me) thought that the kit may have tinges of blue in it; we haven’t had a blue kit since the away Desun kit of 2002-2003, which grew on me throughout the triple assault season. Just imagine if our away kit in the first season back in the Championship was blue; I’m pretty sure the majority of the fan base wouldn’t be too keen on the kit! Once you take a closer look though, you can see that the kit is fully purple, so disaster averted.
At the moment I don’t think the kit is amazing; we’ve definitely had better kits in recent years. Last seasons (black with orange pin stripes) springs to mind, as well as the luminescent green from the Madkins season. To me, I feel like representatives from Adidas, along with the Marketing and Product Design team at Bramall Lane have come together and thought, ‘what colour have we not used over the past 10-15 years for our away kit? Purple?? We haven’t used purple? Get it on the kit for this season!’
From looking online, it looks like a mixed bag in terms of whether fans like it or not. Some absolutely love it, others not so much, I’m pretty sure that the kit will grow on me; the uniqueness should make it a little more memorable than previous kits. As well as that, I suppose there will be no confusion when we go on our travels; I’m pretty sure no team in the Championship doesn’t play in a purple home kit apart from Villa!
